Day 6 of the trip is over, we are at -1 day from the end of the project, because on Sunday, if you agree with us, we will try to rest and recharge our batteries because on Monday we will re-start our daily work.
We are really getting enriched from this "crazy" experience and our thought is dedicated to: young guys, seniors and their passion. Today, more than the other days, we met a mix of young and old owners and we were happily surprised by the light in their eyes (eye of the tiger :-)) where we found the same brightness, the same passion and enthusiasm and, most importantly, the desire to share their passion with us. Older people told us of about their past, their stories, traditions handed down, or the growth of things even at difficult times. Most young people told us their dreams, their ideas, probably more modern but at the same time respectful of the traditions of Umbria, or for example what they intend to propose in their daily work to ensure that guests will fall in love with them and, of course, with their place. What we have inside at the end of this sunny but rainy Friday is that the love for an own business has no age and that the difference in the experience that live a tourist, a visitor, but also an Umbrian who decides to make some nights out, is the light that these hosts have in their eyes. Real Umbria Lovers! --- Labbra roventi... come rovente è la passione delle persone che ospitano Il sesto giorno di viaggio è terminato, siamo a -1 dalla fine del progetto, perchè domenica, se permettete, proveremo a riposarci e ricaricare le pile dato che lunedì ri inizia il nostro quotidiano lavoro. Stiamo uscendo veramente arricchiti da questa esperienza e la nostra riflessione di oggi è dedicata a: giovani, anziani e la loro passione. Oggi più degli altri giorni abbiamo incontrato un mix di giovani proprietari e anziani e siamo rimasti felicemente stupiti dalla luce nei loro occhi dove abbiamo trovato la stessa luminosità, la stessa passione e lo stesso entusiasmo e, ancor più importante, la voglia di condividere con noi la loro passione. I più anziani ci hanno parlato del loro passato, delle tradizioni tramandate, della crescita delle cose in momenti magari difficili. I più giovani ci hanno parlato dei loro sogni, di idee magari più attuali ma rispettose delle tradizioni dell'umbria, e di cosa proporre nella loro attività quotidiana per far sì che l'ospite si innamori di loro e del loro luogo. Ciò che ci portiamo dentro al termine di questo assolato ma piovoso venerdì è che l'amore per la propria attività non ha età e che la differenza nell'esperienza di un turista, di un visitatore, ma anche di un umbro che decide di farsi qualche notte fuori, la fa la luce che queste persone che ospitano hanno negli occhi. Veri Umbria Lovers!!!As we go on with the 100 kisses project (we are at 60 kisses) we meet more and more people that run Agriturismos and b&b that are not from Umbria. Somebody from north Italy, some others from the south, we could say that, until now with 35 places seen, 50% are Umbrian 50% not Umbrian. The not Umbrian ones say: "how could Umbrian families sell farm houses like these on a magical place inside this green wood and with a view made of such magical hills all around?!". We actually agree with them, especially for the beautiful places we are seeing, but we understand that for most of the umbrian families who owned a farm house, the dream for their children could be to have them working in an office, maybe in a city. They worked in farms, a tiring and probably at their eyes, a not so dignified work either, therefore they tried to change their life in better. The same thing, and this is quite interesting, happened with the people from the city, used to work in offices, who discover a new life learning new things about nature, agriculture and animals and they can't understand why they did not make this choice before. Going back to simple things such as growing up flowers or feeding animals are relaxing activities and, at the same time, an occasion to learn important and precious things, often connected with traditions. So, if you come in Umbria, don't just relax, but try to put your hands on things (or at least ask and be curious about them) we assure that they will enrich you while relaxing you... Either done with Umbrian or not Umbrian families!
Proseguendo il nostro tour 100 baci continuiamo ad incontrare sempre più persone che gestiscono o sono proprietari di agriturismi o B&B che non sono umbri. Qualcuno dal nord Italia, altri dal sud, possiamo dire che su 35 posti finora visti, 50% sono umbri e 50% no. I non umbri dicono: "come possono le famiglie umbre vendere casolari come questi, immersi in magici posti in mezzo al verde con bellissime viste di colline a 360°?!". Veramente siamo piuttosto d'accordo con loro, soprattutto per gli spettacolari posti che stiamo incontrando, ma capiamo che per molte delle famiglie umbre che erano proprietarie di fattorie o casolari, il sogno che avevano per i loro figli era quello di averlo all'interno di un ufficio, magari in città. I genitori che lavoravano nelle fattorie sanno che è un lavoro difficile e stancante e spesso, a loro occhi, poco dignitoso, perciò hanno provato a cambiare in meglio la loro vita. La stessa cosa, e questo è piuttosto interessante, è successo anche a persone dalla città, abituati agli uffici, che hanno scoperto una nuova vita imparando cose sulla natura, sull'agricoltura o sugli animali. Tornare a cose così semplici come far crescere i fiori o dar da mangiare agli animali è una attività rilassante e al tempo stesso un occasione importante per imparare cose così preziose, spesso connesse con tradizioni. Quindi, se venite in Umbria, non pensate solo al relax, ma provate a mettere in pratica le vostre abilità manuali (o almeno fate domande e siate curiose), vi assicuriamo che vi arricchiranno e rilasseranno al tempo stesso... Many of the places we are visiting are run by families of 3-4-5 people, they look like the Umbria that our grandparents told us, the one where whole families, from grandparents to children, worked in the farm, growing up plants and animals. Years have passed since those works were made mainly to eat and survive, but the traditions, ways of doing things and the products have remained the same. These families now share their traditions with tourists who can stay in their rooms, and we believe that this is truly a special occasion. So, we love the families of the agriturismos!
Another exciting day, and another different day. Day 3 of the 100 kisses tour (we are at 35 kisses more or less) learnt us another thing of Umbria: its amazing power to give back the Time to people. Do you have the idea of days passing by without even understand what is happening because of the lose of control caused by stressing works, crazy cities, angry people, etc... Throw this idea in the toilet and start over. ALL of the people we met today are in Umbria OR because they came back from a life outside their original region, OR because they moved here from another not-umbrian place. The thing everybody told us when we asked why was: Quality of life and the chance to take back their time. And we think this is amazing. Some of them take their time back also with help of animals (soooo cute), do you remember the last time you saw a chick or a kid in a farm? We think it was at elementary school! These are really important and precious things to recover.
Un altro giorno fantastico, un altro giorno diverso. Il 3° del nostro tour 100 baci (siamo più o meno a 35 baci dati) ci ha insegnato un'altra cosa sull'Umbria: il suo incredibile potere di restituire il tempo alle persone. Hai presente l'idea dei giorni che scorrono senza nemmeno capire bene cosa sta accadendo a causa della perdita del controllo causata da lavori stressanti, città frenetiche, persone sclerotiche, etc.... Getta questo pensiero nel water e inizia daccapo. TUTTE le persone che abbiamo incontrato oggi sono in Umbria O perchè sono tornate da altre regioni alla loro regione di origine, O perchè si sono trasferite da altre regioni. La cosa che tutti ci hanno detto quando gli abbiamo chiesto il perchè è stata: La Qualità della vita e la possibilità di riprendersi indietro il loro tempo. E pensiamo che tutto ciò sia fantastico. Alcuni di loro lo riprendono anche grazie agli animali (troooooppo carini), ti ricordi l'ultima volta che hai visto un pulcino o una capretta in una fattoria? Per ciò che ci riguarda credo che erano le scuole elementari! Queste sono le cose importanti e preziose cose da recuperare. Starting time of day 3: 09am, finish time 6pm. Km done 120This was our conclusion, our final resume of day 2: websites looks so similar, everyone seems to offer the same things, BUT, visiting them and knowing them, every agriturismo is reeeeeally different. Huge different. And, as we drive, we are understing the great, great value of this crazy tour (a thing that we did not planned or thought before) the fortune of listen to the stories of the people, and the difference that every one of the owners can make on the customer experience. La nostra conclusione di questa seconda giornata di tour è stata questa: i siti internet e l'offerta che ogni agriturismo propone sembrano così simili l'una all'altra. Il luogo, il posto, il casolare non sono in grado da soli di sottolineare la grande differenza che c'è tra di loro, che invece è enorme. Questa è la cosa che, mentre ci spostiamo e li visitiamo, capiamo e che ci rendiamo conto che ha un valore immenso (una cosa non pianificata o pensata prima) la fortuna di poter ascoltare le storie delle persone, e la differenza che ogni proprietario può fare sull'esperienza di soggiorno di un turista. Appena incontrato un fantastico uomo (quello nella foto è suo figlio) che ancora fa lo zafferano, il vero zafferano, tutto a mano. Simile all'oro...Day 1 is over. We drove 70Km, saw 8 agriturismo and, most of all, met a lot of really nice, kind and interesting People... the real stars of Umbria are they and they did not betrayed our expectations.... we are so happy to have decided to do this project... The magic Umbria is behind the walls or stones... it is in People!!!
Il giorno 1 è finito. Abbiamo percorso 70Km, visto 8 agriturismi e, più di tutto, incontrato un sacco di belle, gentili, interessanti persone... le vere Star dell'Umbria sono loro e non hanno tradito le nostre aspettative.... siamo così felici di aver deciso di fare questo progetto... la Magic Umbria è dietro le mura o le pietre... sono le persone!!!
